2 jockeys hospitalized after 4-horse pileup
LONDON (AP) Britain's champion jockey, Jim Crowley, and fellow rider Frederik Tylicki were taken to the hospital with suspected spinal injuries following a pile-up involving four horses at Kempton on Monday.
Crowley and Tylicki were treated at the racecourse before being taken to the major trauma unit at a hospital in south London.
Racing was delayed for more than an hour, before a decision was made to abandon the remaining four races on the card.
The incident occurred after two horses - Nellie Deen and Madame Butterfly, ridden by Tylicki - had heavy falls. Crowley's mount, Electrify, and Skara Mae were racing behind and were brought down.
Barney Clifford, clerk of the course, said Crowley and Tylicki ''both are on spinal boards.''
The horses were not reported to be seriously injured.
Crowley became Britain's flat-racing champion jockeyfor the first time on Oct. 15.
