NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) The American entry in the Volvo Ocean Race has arrived in Newport for final crew selection and a month of training before the start of the round-the-world race.
Team Alvimedica arrived at the Newport Shipyard on Monday following a 3,000-mile trans-Atlantic training leg. Its skipper is Charlie Enright of Bristol, Rhode Island.
Other American crew members are Mark Towill of Kaneohe, Hawaii, and Rhode Island sailors Nick Dana and Amory Ross of Newport and Jesse Fielding of North Kingstown.
The team will train in Newport until July 9 when it sails back to Spain for the fall start of the race, which will cover 38,000 nautical miles. Newport will be the only American stopover in the race.
