Triathlon's governing body is raising the profile of a team event to help its bid for inclusion at the 2016 Olympics.
The International Triathlon Union is adding the team world championships as a points-scoring event for the season-long individual world rankings.
ITU President Marisol Casado says the higher status for team triathlon is an ''important step forward'' in campaigning for that form of the sport be included in the Rio 2016 program.
Team triathlon consists of two men and two women each completing a super-sprint course of 275 meters swimming, 3.7 miles cycling and a mile run.

The team worlds event, and a sprint worlds medal race that also counts toward the season-long title, are scheduled for Aug. 20-21 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
