International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge expects the Asian Games to run smoothy, saying his ''Chinese friends are masters of organizing major events.''

Rogge, in Guangzhou for a three-day visit, told China's Xinhua news agency on Saturday that ''you can only judge the organization after the last day ... but I am very confident.''

Rogge praised the spectacular opening ceremony Friday night, and attended competition events on Saturday. The games end Nov. 27.

Guangzhou is the second Chinese city to host the Asian Games. Beijing, which held the Summer Olympics in 2008, staged the event in 1990.

When asked if Guangzhou was capable of hosting an Olympics, Rogge said: ''Guangzhou definitely has the skill to do that.''
