The Olympic Delivery Authority needed local government permission to build the venue on the north of the Olympic Park on what was the site of a sports center demolished after its closed in 2001.

Wheelchair tennis will also take place at the venue, which will become a hockey and tennis center after the London Games.

It will include two competition hockey pitches, four indoor and six outdoor tennis courts and five-a-side football pitches. Mountain bike trails from the adjacent VeloPark will also extend on to Eton Manor.
