A petition posted to change.org recently is asking the International Olympic Committee to revoke Caitlyn Jenner’s gold medal won in the decathlon at the 1976 Summer Olympics when she was Bruce Jenner.

The petition, started by Jennifer Bradford of Fort Worth, Texas, claims the revocation would “support the transgender community,” says the supporters are making the request “with heavy heart,” and adds the only way Jenner would be allowed to retain her medal is if it could be proven “that Bruce Jenner and Caitlyn Jenner are two entirely different people.”

As of 4 a.m. ET Thursday, the petition generated nearly 9,000 supporters.

Caitlyn Jenner introduced herself to the world Monday with a feature article that included the cover shot in Vanity Fair, a move which ignited a firestorm in traditional media and on social media.

Jenner followed the cover reveal with her new Twitter account and first tweet, and subsequently set a record for the fastest Twitter account to reach one million followers.
