The National Volleyball League has signed three sponsors as it attempts to rebuild a domestic professional beach tour to capitalize on the sport's expected attention at the London Olympics.
League founder Alb Hanneman says Club Med, Asics shoes and Surgex nutritional supplements have signed multiyear deals.
The pro tour has six stops scheduled for this year, including this weekend in Baltimore where the finals will be in the infield at the Pimlico race track on the day of the Preakness Stakes.
The United States has been without a cohesive pro tour since the AVP collapsed in the summer of 2010.Top U.S. players are hoping the NVL can help grow the sport in this country.
