Michael Phelps' last Olympic swim also broke a world record
The men's 4 x 100-meter medley relay in Rio was monumental for a number of reasons.
Not only did it mark Michael Phelps' last Olympic dip in the pool, it was also the last swimming event at the Rio Summer Games. And the United States team did not disappoint, finishing the relay in Olympic record time to win the gold.
But perhaps lost in the swimming and Phelps shuffle was that Ryan Murphy, who did the backstroke portion of the relay, broke the world record in his 100-meter leg with a 51.85 second time.

So ... a world record and three golds in three events for the 21-year-old Murphy. They may not be Phelps numbers, but it's not a bad tally for these Olympic Games.
