Former Olympic host Lillehammer is the only candidate to stage the second Winter Youth Games in 2016.
The Norwegian town hosted the 1994 Winter Olympics, which are still regarded as among the most successful winter games.
Lillehammer was the only candidate to submit a 2016 Youth Games bid to the International Olympic Committee by Thursday's deadline. The IOC says an evaluation commission will analyze Lillehammer's bid before the host city is announced by October 2011.
The youth event features 1,000 athletes ages 14-to-18 competing in seven sports.
The first Winter Youth Olympics will take place in 2012 in Innsbruck, Austria. The first Summer Youth Games were held this year in Singapore.
