Kevin Love among the athletes slated to appear in 'Body Issue'
By Will Gibson
Cleveland did not get to celebrate a Cavaliers championship, but the offseason has brought news that may be seen as a decent consolation prize for at least a portion of Cavs fans: Kevin Love is getting naked.
The power forward/heartthrob will be among 24 athletes featured in ESPN The Magazine’s Body Issue, which will be online July 6 and on newsstands July 10. This will be the seventh edition of the Body Issue, which features prominent athletes in their birthday suits and interviews about their physiques. Clever poses and camera angles are used so as to show off the athletes’ figures while leaving the most sensitive areas to the imagination (and to keep the mag from being the sort that requires plastic packaging and behind-the-counter shelf space.)
The "Body Issue" has featured all sorts of body types over the years, such as that of the well-fed Prince Fielder last year.
“Our goal is to continue to evolve the issue year after year,” ESPN The Magazine and ESPN.com editor in chief Chad Millman said. “The ability to capture both the strength and vulnerability of these extraordinary athletes through such powerful images and introspective interviews is incredibly moving.”
“One of the things I love about the Body Issue so much is that it celebrates the bodies that allow us to be successful in our sport,” said Natalie Coughlin, who has won 12 Olympic swimming medals. “As a sports fan, I love seeing the differences in body types.”
Others featured in the 2015 issue include Washington Nationals star Bryce Harper, DeAndre Jordan of the Los Angeles Clippers, New York Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Tyler Seguin of the Dallas Stars, WNBA All-Star Brittney Griner, USA women’s soccer star Ali Krieger, and Olympians Aly Raisman and Natalie Coughlin.
