Germany's Rydzek wins World Cup Nordic combined with Frenzel in lead

HELSINKI -- Johannes Rydzek of Germany won his first Nordic combined World Cup event Friday at the Lahti Ski Games, with Eric Frenzel maintaining his lead in the overall standings.

Finishing fourth in the ski jumping and fourth in the 10-kilometer cross-country ski race, Rydzek's combined time was 24 minutes, 27.8 seconds. Akihito Watabe of Japan was second, seven seconds behind.

Frenzel came in third, 20.6 seconds behind the winner after finishing second in the jump and 21st in the 10-kilometer race.

German athletes took five of the top 10 positions.

Frenzel leads the overall standings with 913 points. Watabe is next with 581 points with three competitions remaining this season.
