Former New Zealand IOC member Wilson dies at 89

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Former International Olympic Committee member of New Zealand Tay Wilson has died. He was 89.
The IOC announced the death Wednesday. The cause was not disclosed.
Wilson joined the IOC in 1988 and served on the new sources of financing commission from 1989-1993 and the finance commission from 1994-2006. He retired and became an honorary member in 2006.
IOC President Thomas Bach called Wilson ''a man full of passion for sport'' who ''believed strongly in the integrity of sport, and spent most of his life working to protect it.''

A former rower, Wilson served as New Zealand's team leader at the 1980 Moscow Olympics and as secretary general of the New Zealand Olympic Committee.
