Eberhard wins last men's biathlon World Cup sprint of season

KHANTY-MANSIYSK, Russia (AP) Julian Eberhard earned a surprising win Friday in the final men's biathlon World Cup 10-kilometer sprint race of the season.
The Austrian started fast, made all his shots and held on to win in 24 minutes, 18.6 seconds, beating Simon Schempp of Germany by 1.1 seconds.
Another German, Arnd Peiffer, was third, 23 seconds behind Eberhard.
Overall champion Martin Fourcade of France started fast but had four misses at the shooting range, eventually finishing 40th, more than two minutes off the pace.

Men's and women's pursuit races are scheduled for Saturday, followed by mass starts Sunday to end the World Cup season.
