Canadian star diver Alexandre Despatie is recovering after hitting his head on the board while practicing in Spain.

Diving Canada says Despatie was preparing for this weekend's Grand Prix on Tuesday when he lost his balance on takeoff and his head struck the end of the springboard. He was left with a 4-inch cut just below the hairline and underwent surgery the next day. The governing body says he did not sustain a concussion.

Despatie is a two-time Olympic silver medalist who is hoping to compete at the London Games. He is expected to return home in days. It will be at least three weeks before he can train again.
