Celtics owner assures IOC that Boston locals will support Olympics
The new leader of Boston's troubled bid for the 2024 Olympics has told the IOC that local residents will support the effort once they've been fully informed of the plans and the long-term benefits of the games.
A delegation of Boston and U.S. Olympic Committee leaders met with IOC officials in Lausanne, Switzerland, on Wednesday as part of the new "invitation phase" for bid cities.
The Boston group was headed by Steve Pagliuca, the Boston Celtics co-owner who took over as bid chairman last Thursday, replacing construction magnate John Fish.
Polls have shown local support for the bid at below 50 percent.
Pagliuca says in an interview with The Associated Press that he told the IOC that Boston is working at a "feverish pace" to finalize its bid plans and present the facts to the public.
