The Olympic cauldron has a new spot in the main stadium, although it still won't be visible to the public.
Organizers said in a statement Monday the cauldron was shifted from the middle of the stadium infield to an area near the bell at the opening ceremony bell. The switch is necessary to prepare for track and field competition, which begins Friday.
To make the transition, the Olympic flame was taken from the cauldron and placed in a lantern while the cauldron was moved to the south end of the stadium.
The cauldron was reignited Monday morning by Austin Playfoot, a torchbearer at the 1948 and 2012 London Olympics.
