Britain to compete in water polo in Olympics

Britain will compete in Olympic water polo for the first time in 56 years after being handed host nation qualification places for the London Games in 2012.

The British Olympic Association's qualifying standards panel believes the men's and women's teams will be able to deliver credible performances at the Olympics because their players have appeared regularly for European clubs in recent years.

BOA chief executive Andy Hunt says on Friday that Britain's improved results on the international stage also influenced the panel's decision.

They are the latest teams to receive host nation places, after Britain's handball, table tennis and judo sides.
