Austrian Kriechmayr posts fastest time in downhill training
CHAMONIX, France (AP) Austrian skier Vincent Kriechmayr led the second training run for a World Cup downhill race Thursday, with American Steven Nyman just behind.
Kriechmayr, who secured a second career podium finishing third in the super-G at the Korean resort of Jeongseon this month, clocked 1 minute, 57.59 seconds despite missing a gate.
He would have been disqualified in a race but because it is only training, his time is allowed to stand.
In sunny conditions on the La Verte des Houches at the French resort of Chamonix by Mont Blanc, Kriechmayr placed .14 ahead of Nyman and .25 clear of Canadian Erik Guay.
Norway's Kjetil Jansrud placed fourth.
There is an Alpine combined race Friday, downhill followed by a slalom, followed by a downhill race Saturday.
