Two-time Olympic skiing gold medalist Maria Riesch is among several former and current German athletes who are supporting Munich's bid to stage the 2018 Winter Games.
Riesch has joined the ''OlympiJa 2018'' group along with former Olympic skiing champion Rosi Mittermaier, her husband Christian Neureuther, their son Felix Neureuther, and former Germany hockey goaltender Peppi Heiss.
All are residents of Garmisch-Partnkirchen, the venue for Alpine skiing in Munich's plans.
The Munich bid has run into opposition from local farmers concerned about land use. Also in the running for 2018 are Annecy, France, and Pyeongchang, South Korea.
