Premier Gordon Campbell revealed the medals Thursday in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Designer Corrine Hunt says each of the 1,014 medals is part of a larger piece of Canadian aboriginal artwork of an orca whale and raven. She says no two medals are alike.
The medals are the heaviest in Olympic and Paralympic history weighing between 17 ounces (500 grams) to 20 ounces (576 grams).
