COLLEGE FOOTBALL
Auburn moved up a spot to No. 3 on Sunday in The Associated Press college football behind Mississippi State and Florida State ahead of a weekend stacked with Top 25 matchups.
The Tigers hopped past Alabama after a 35-31 victory at Mississippi on Saturday night. Ole Miss dropped five spots to No. 12.
Alabama is fourth and heading to No. 14 LSU on Saturday, one of six games matching top 20 teams.
No. 5 Oregon visits No. 20 Utah. TCU jumped four spots to No. 6 after its last-second victory at West Virginia. The Horned Frogs host No. 9 Kansas State.
Michigan State is seventh ahead of its Big Ten showdown with No. 13 Ohio State.
No. 8 Notre Dame, which slipped two spots after a close call against Navy, plays at No. 11 Arizona State.
No. 10 Baylor plays at No. 19 Oklahoma.
AUTO RACING
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) Jimmie Johnson raced to his third straight Texas fall victory Sunday, a win overshadowed by a melee on pit road.
Johnson emerged from a frantic finish, the second attempt at an overtime two-lap sprint to the finish after his teammate Jeff Gordon spun out from the front following contact with Brad Keselowski.
While Johnson celebrated his fourth victory at Texas and 70th Sprint Cup win overall, fireworks exploded in the sky - and on pit road. Gordon stopped his car right by Keselowski and confronted him. There were plenty of punches thrown, with NASCAR officials in the middle of crew members and others around Keselowski's car.
On Saturday, Kyle Busch won the Nationwide Series race for his seventh victory of the year and record-extending 70th overall. He also won the Camping World Truck Series on Friday night.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Lewis Hamilton got the better of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg once again, winning the U.S. Grand Prix on Sunday to edge closer to his second Formula One season championship.
Hamilton leads Rosberg by 24 points with races left in Brazil and Abu Dhabi. The final race will be worth double points under a rule change this season.
It was Hamilton's second win in Texas in three years, his 10th of the season and fifth in a row.
LAS VEGAS (AP) - Erica Enders-Stevens won the NHRA Toyota Nationals on Sunday to reclaim the Pro Stock points lead with one race remaining.
Enders-Stevens powered her Chevy Camaro to a 6.587-second pass at 209.36 mph to beat defending series champion Jeg Coughlin in the final. Enders-Stevens has five victories this year, also winning the March event in Las Vegas. She opened a 17-point lead over Jason Line, her semifinal opponent.
Del Worsham topped the Funny Car field, Spencer Massey won in Top Fuel, and Andrew Hines in Pro Stock Motorcycle. Worsham topped 16-time series champion John Force with a 4.06 at 318.39. The 65-year-old Force is second in the standings, 21 points behind Matt Hagan.
MARATHON
NEW YORK (AP) - Kenya's Wilson Kipsang and Mary Keitany won the New York City Marathon on Sunday, with both pulling away in the final mile.
Kipsang finished in 2 hours, 10 minutes, 55 seconds - the slowest winning time in New York since 1995. He has won titles in Berlin, London and New York in just over 13 months and clinched the $500,000 World Marathon Majors bonus. Ethiopia's Lelisa Desisa was second, 8 seconds back, and 2010 champ Gebre Gebremariam third.
Boston Marathon champ Meb Keflezighi of the United States was fourth. Two-time defending champion Geoffrey Mutai settled for sixth.
Keitany won in 2:25:07 - 3 seconds ahead of countrywoman Jemima Sumgong, matching the closest finish in the history of the women's race. Portugal's Sara Moreira was third in her marathon debut.
GOLF
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) - Tom Pernice Jr. won the Champions Tour's season-ending Charles Schwab Cup Championship on Sunday, beating Jay Haas with a birdie on the fourth hole of a playoff.
The 55-year-old Pernice got up-and-down from the left bunker on the par-5 18th, holing a 6-foot putt after Haas made a 12-footer for par. Pernice closed with a 3-under 67 - also making a 6-foot birdie putt on 18 - to match Haas at 11-under 269 on Desert Mountain's Cochise Course. The 60-year-old Haas had a 66.
Kenny Perry finished a stroke back.
Bernhard Langer tied for fourth with Colin Montgomerie at 9 under. Langer wrapped up his second Charles Schwab Cup points title last week to earn a $1 million annuity and made $158,000 on Sunday to break Hale Irwin's tour record with $3,074,189. Irwin made $3,082,304 in 2002.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - Ryan Moore successfully defended his CIMB Classic title Sunday, shooting a 5-under 67 for a three-stroke victory - beating fellow American Gary Woodland for the second straight year.
Moore finished at 17-under 271 at Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club to become the first player to successfully defend a PGA Tour title since Tiger Woods at the Arnold Palmer Invitation in 2012 and 2013.
Woodland tied for second with Sergio Garcia and Kevin Na. Last year, Moore beat Woodland in a playoff.
TAIPEI, Taiwan (AP) - Inbee Park won the LPGA Taiwan Championship for her third victory of the year and 12th career title, holding off Stacy Lewis by two strokes Sunday at Miramar.
Six days after regaining the No. 1 spot in the world from Lewis, the South Korean newlywed closed with a 1-under 71 in misty rain to finish at 22-under 266. The second-ranked Lewis shot 69.
SHANGHAI (AP) - Germany's Marcel Siem chipped in for birdie Sunday in the BMW Masters to win a sudden-death playoff against France's Alexander Levy and England's Ross Fisher. Siem overcame a five-shot deficit at wind-whipped Lake Malaren, shooting a 1-over 73 to match Levy (78) and Fisher (67) at 16-under 272.
COLLEGE BASKETBALL
CINCINNATI (AP) - Lauren Hill needed just 17 seconds to make her dream come true, albeit differently than she initially imagined.
The freshman forward for Division III Mount St. Joseph's made an uncontested left-handed layup for the opening basket Sunday against Hiram College. Hill has just months to live because of an inoperable brain tumor that has forced the right-hander to shoot with her left hand because the tumor has affected her coordination.
Her shot brought a standing ovation from a sellout crowd at Xavier University's 10,000-seat arena and was among many emotional moments for Hill, who received love and support from the moment she walked out for warmups. The audience included former Tennessee women's coach Pat Summitt.
Mount St. Joseph won 66-55.
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - Indiana sophomore Devin Davis is improving after being struck by a teammate's car and suffering a head injury, the school said Sunday.
The university issued a release quoting team physician Dr. Larry Rink as saying Davis was ''doing better'' Sunday morning and had benefited from uninterrupted rest.
The news release did not indicate the 19-year-old's medical condition. He had been listed in serious condition Saturday at IU Health Bloomington Hospital.
Bloomington police say they found Davis unconscious early Saturday after he was struck by an SUV driven by teammate Emmitt Holt outside of Memorial Stadium.
HORSE RACING
ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) - Bayern won the $5 million Breeders' Cup Classic by a nose Saturday, surviving a stewards' inquiry prompted by multiple horses bumping near the start.
Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert had to wait, along with a crowd of 61,114 at Santa Anita, to confirm that he had finally won North America's richest race after failing in 12 previous tries.
The two-day world championships concluded with trainer Chad Brown claiming three victories, while trainer Wesley Ward had two. European horses earned just one victory, with 30-1 shot Karakontie in the $2 million Mile.
The Mile surprise was one of four upsets Saturday. The biggest came in the $2 million Juvenile Fillies, with Take Charge Brandi kicking off the nine Cup races with a 61-1 upset for 79-year-old Hall of Fame trainer D. Wayne Lukas. Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith extended his record for Cup victories to 21 with a win in the Filly & Mare Sprint with Judy the Beauty - the only favorite to win Saturday.
In the Classic, Bayern ran 1 1/4 miles in 1:59.88 and paid $14.20, $8 and $5.20 at 6-1 odds.
TENNIS
PARIS (AP) - Top-ranked Novak Djokovic became the first man to successfully defend Paris Masters title, beating Canada's Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-3 on Sunday. The Serbian star didn't drop a set the whole week en route to his 20th Masters title and third victory in the event.
SOFIA, Bulgaria (AP) - Fourth-seeded Andrea Petkovic of Germany beat third-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday in the season-ending Tournament of Champions for her third WTA title of the year.
