A 55-year-old man from Bolton, England, was killed as the result of a road traffic accident on the Snaefell Mountain Course on the Isle of Man Thursday morning.

The infamous 37.73-mile road course plays host to the annual Isle of Man TT motorcycle races, which will be ran next week. This week, the course is being used for practice, but is open to the public when the racers aren’t on track.

Thursday morning’s incident took place on the mountain portion of the circuit, where the BMW motorcycle rider collided with a Citroen C4 on Hailwood’s Rise at 6:45 a.m. local time, reports the BBC. Both vehicles were travelling in the same direction.

“The rider was treated at the scene but was pronounced dead on arrival at Noble’s Hospital,” the report adds.

Multiple road traffic incidents occur each year on the course, as motorists take to the roads in both directions in between practice and race sessions.
