Upset brewing? Rosberg fastest Friday on Hamilton's home turf

Mercedes’ Nico Rosberg topped both FP1 and FP2 at the Silverstone Circuit in England on Friday while his teammate Lewis Hamilton could only manage as high as second and fourth in the respective sessions in front of his home fans.

It wasn’t all smooth sailing for Rosberg, however, as he came to a stop on track due to a loss of hydraulic power in FP1 and had to undergo a gearbox change, while in FP2 his Mercedes W06 Hybrid was suffering from overheating problems.

The red flag was flown twice in the second practice session after two separate spins in Luffield – the first for Lotus driver Romain Grosjean and the second for Manor’s Roberto Merhi, the Manor Marussia car sporting a new red, white and blue livery after acquiring a new sponsor deal with Flex Box.

Many drivers were complaining about a lack of balance, possibly due to the fact that England has recently been suffering from a heat wave and the track temperatures might have been higher than anticipated. Rain is expected overnight.

A third practice session will be run on Saturday at 5 a.m. ET with qualifying shortly after at 8 a.m. ET. The British Grand Prix will start at 8 a.m. ET Sunday with LIVE timing and scoring for all sessions available at GP RaceCast.
