SANTA ROSA, Calif. (AP) Officials say a second racer has died after being injured during a weekend motorcycle race in California in which a 20-year-old rider was also killed.

The Santa Rosa Press Democrat reports (http://bit.ly/2cAgjmf) Tuesday that officials with AMA Pro Racing confirmed the death of 17-year-old Kyle McGrane of Gap, Pennsylvania, during a race at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds on Sunday. He died late Monday.

McGrane crashed coming out of the fourth turn of the final lap of his afternoon race and was taken to a hospital where he later died, the newspaper reported.

In a separate race, Charlotte Kainz of the Milwaukee, Wisconsin, area, died while participating in the race. Kainz died after crashing into another racer.

Both McGrane and Kainz were in the race's junior division of Ramspur Winery Santa Rosa Mile AMA Pro Flat Track Motorcycle Race.

AMA Pro Racing CEO Michael Lock says it is rare that anyone dies at a race, let alone two people.

Officials are reviewing communication procedures to see whether any aspect of the response could have been improved.
