Revised F1 tires mean more work
F1 teams have some work to do in the wind tunnel before Pirelli introduces its revised tires in Hungary.
The change to a 2012-style structure means that the tires have a different aerodynamic profile.
“Obviously, the shape of the tire is critical to the aerodynamics around the front wing and around the diffuser,” said Ferrari’s Pat Fry. “We just need to re-optimize in those two areas.
“Obviously, we have the wind-tunnel tires for both, so we need to get in and start comparing and seeing what adjustments are needed. It’s impossible to say if it’s going to benefit one car more than another. I don’t know. I guess we’ll find out in Hungary.”
“There are differences, but we’re aware of those differences, because it’s a tire, obviously, that we used and developed around last year,” said Paddy Lowe of Mercedes. “So we can look at that when that’s been finally confirmed, and optimize the car around it.”
