Newgarden hurt in scary crash during IndyCar race in Texas
FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) IndyCar driver Josef Newgarden was injured in a hard crash Sunday that sent his car sliding sideways against the frontstretch wall at Texas.
Newgarden was transported by helicopter to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas to be further evaluated for right shoulder and right wrist issues.
Conor Daly's car got loose coming out of Turn 4 at Texas and snapped into the car driven by Newgarden. After the initial contact that sent Newgarden's car sideways, there was a harder impact with his head and upper body exposed as the car was slammed and slid against the wall.
Both drivers were able to climb out of their cars. Newgarden was tended on the track and put on a stretcher, but waved and gave a thumbs-up to the crowd while being put in an ambulance.
Daly was cleared after being checked in the infield care center.
