5150 Studios, a self-described "worldwide financing and production company with a focus on developing and creating progressive and competitive product for worldwide cinemas," which is open to membership and investors, says it is in pre-production on an IndyCar-based feature film, "Out On the Road." The script for the movie revolves around two fictional characters trying to break into IndyCar racing – one a as a driver and the other, intriguingly, as a team owner – amid professional and romantic challenges. Click here to read the plot synopsis.

No production plans have yet been confirmed for the project, which would be the first live action film for the big screen centered on IndyCar racing since Sylvester Stallone's disappointing "Driven" in 2001. The most recent racing movie – Ron Howard's critically acclaimed F1 period piece, "Rush" (2013) – garnered middling box office success in the U.S., although it did better internationally.
