McLaren hires Magnussen for 2014
Kevin Magnussen will replace Sergio Perez at McLaren as the race driver alongside Jenson Button for the 2014 Formula One season.
The 21-year-old Dane has been McLaren's development driver for the last two seasons, winning this year's feeder World Series, and will be the first rookie at the British team since Lewis Hamilton in 2007.
Magnussen says in a statement Thursday that "it's no exaggeration to say that I've dedicated almost every day of my life to achieving the goal of becoming a McLaren Formula 1 driver."
Team principal Martin Whitmarsh described Magnussen as "very talented and very determined" and says he has been "very quick and very methodical" every time he has tested McLaren's Formula One car.
McLaren has had a poor 2013, with two fifth places their best results.
