Mazda MX-5 Cup heads to Road America for Rounds 5-6 of 2016
The 2016 Battery Tender Global Mazda MX-5 Cup presented by BFGoodrich Tires has already made two stops - and ran four races - on the 2016 schedule.
So far, Patrick Gallagher and Robby Foley have won races at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, while Mark Drennan and Nikko Reger tasted victory at the newly-repaved Watkins Glen. However, it is Dean Copeland who has the points lead after four out of 12 rounds.
Yet behind Copeland, there are still plenty of stories and big names to be found throughout the rest of the field. Take - for example - 22-year-old Andrew List from Rogers, Minnesota. While he sits 23rd in the points, he is coming off of his best finish of the season, having moved up into the series from the USF2000 Championship. This weekend, he will have a home track advantage at Road America in Plymouth, WI.
Andrew List.
List has been racing for more than 15 years in various karting and SCCA series. While he has yet to taste victory in the MX-5 Cup, his D2D Motorsports team should be pleased to know that List is one of the more dependable drivers out there, as he is also an instructor at various safe driving programs.
“Each year, many young drivers die or are seriously injured in car crashes,” comments List. “Safe driving programs help young drivers develop the skills to maintain control in emergency situations. Watching these young drivers improve in one day is amazing.
“We look forward to racing in the MX-5 Cup this year. It’s is a series based on competition between identically prepared cars and Mazda has invested considerable time and resources to produce a predictable and stable platform. Their research and testing has created a car that’s easy to tune and fun to drive.”
In addition to Project Yellow Light, List will also be carrying his “Paws for the Cause” message at Road America promoting shelter animal adoptions. Ahead of the event, he’s been testing setups on iRacing while also working on his body strength with various training exercises.
