Johannes van Overbeek takes pole

MONTEREY, Calif. (AP) Johannes van Overbeek won the Prototype class pole Saturday for the Monterey Grand Prix in Extreme Speed Motorsports' Honda-powered HPD ARX-03b.

Van Overbeek turned a fast lap of 1 minute, 18.561 seconds in the No. 2 Honda at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca to top the lineup Sunday for the fourth race in the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season. Richard Westbrook took the second spot on the front row with a lap of 1:18.788 in the Spirit of Daytona Corvette DP.

Antonio Garcia, driving the No. 3 Chevrolet Corvette C7.R, took the GT Le Mans class pole at 1:22.373. Bruno Junqueira topped the Prototype Challenge field at 1:19.723 in an RSR Racing Chevrolet ORECA FLM09, and Spencer Pumpelly took the GT Daytona pole at 1:26.695 in an Audi R8 LMS.
