IndyCar driver James Jakes will drop 10 spots on the Honda Indy Toronto grid after making an unapproved engine change.

IndyCar announced the penalty Sunday morning.

Jakes was set to start in the 19th spot, but will drop into the back of the 25-car pack for the race later Sunday. He'll still be ahead of Simona de Silvestro, who also incurred a 10-spot penalty after making an unapproved engine change on Friday.

Defending champion Dario Franchitti won his third consecutive pole of the season.
