IMSA: Title battles early on in TUDOR Championship
Just four rounds into the inaugural TUDOR United SportsCar Championship season, and we're already starting to see some tight points battles shape up.
Prototype:
Though co-drivers Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi have been leading the Prototype standings since winning the season-opener at the Rolex 24 At Daytona, just 14 points separate the top four teams, with a tie in the points for second.
No. 01 Telcel Chip Ganassi Racing Ford EcoBoost/Riley DP teammates Scott Pruett and Memo Rojas and No. 10 Konica Minolta Corvette DP teammates Jordan and Ricky Taylor have all scored 124 points in the opening four rounds. They are three points back of the points leaders.
The No. 02 Tequila Patron HPD ARX-03b/Honda teammates Ed Brown and Johannes van Overbeek sit fourth, with 113 points.
GT Le Mans:
No. 55 BMW Team RLL BMW Z4 GTE co-drivers Bill Auberlen and Andy Priaulx have a bit more breathing room on the GTLM side, with a five point lead over No. 3 Corvette Racing Chevrolet Corvette C7.R co-drivers Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen.
A seven-point gap then follows before a tight battle between positions three through six, which are separated by just five points.
Prototype Challenge:
Just three points separate the top two teams in the PC class after the first three events. The No. 54 CORE autosport ORECA FLM 09 co-drivers Jon Bennett and Colin Braun have 97 points, and are three points ahead of No. 8 Starworks Motorsport driver Renger van der Zande, who won the most recent TUDOR Championship round at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.
GT Daytona:
No. 555 AIM Autosport Ferrari 458 Italia co-drivers Townsend Bell and Bill Sweedler are tied for the GTD points lead with No. 44 Magnus Racing's Porsche 911 GT America co-drivers Andy Lally and John Potter, just four points ahead of No. 45 Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS co-drivers Spencer Pumpelly and Nelson Canache Jr. in third.
The TUDOR Championship will be back in action at Detroit Belle Isle at the end of the month, which will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1 at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, May 31.
