Fun and games over: Title fight heats up as Formula E heads to Berlin
The FIA Formula E series will be at the Tempelhof track for the DHL Berlin ePrix on Saturday, and it is now time for the championship leaders to seriously consider where they are in the points and how they can take away the inaugural FIA Formula E Championship trophy.
There are three main reasons contributing to this:
1. The game of “musical chairs” has finished. From Round 1 in Beijing to Round 5 in Miami, there were multiple driver changes each race. However, since the Miami ePrix, the 20 drivers on the entry list have remained the same and are all expected to be in action in Saturday’s race. Your 19 foes aren’t going away anymore, so you might want to make an extra effort to finish in front of them.
2. There are only two venues left after this. Sure, Berlin may be Round 8 of the 11-round season, but Rounds 10 and 11 will both be held on adjacent days on the streets of London to finish the season. To complicate matters, the worst result for each driver gets dropped at the end of the year, so you are going to want to go into London, if not even Moscow (Round 9), with a healthy points lead over your rivals.
3. We now have a two-time winner. Until Monaco, nobody had scored that elusive second victory that really gives you a boost in the points. Sebastiaen Buemi was able to pull that off and, although it is true that he still sits some 10 points back of di Grassi, a third victory for Buemi on Saturday – with everyone else having failed to score more than one – would, if nothing else, be a huge confidence boost.
