INDIANAPOLIS (AP) Four-time Indianapolis 500 winner A.J. Foyt is in stable condition at a Houston hospital following triple-bypass heart surgery Wednesday.

Team spokesman Anne Fornoro says Foyt is expected to remain hospitalized through next Monday.

Foyt was admitted on Friday after complaining of intermittent chest pains. Fornoro says doctors found blockages Monday in three arteries in which the 79-year-old former driver previously had stents placed.

Foyt has been fighting health issues recently. Last year, he had back surgery and left hip and right knee replacements. In 2012, he had a life-threatening staph infection following surgery to remove bone spurs in his artificial left knee.

Two weeks ago, Foyt announced his IndyCar team was expanding to two full-time cars in 2015 and had bought a new race shop in Indianapolis.
