F1 champion Lewis Hamilton previews music on 60 Minutes
Three-time Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday night, opening up about multiple topics including his relationship with his father, his favorite movie (Cool Runnings) and age at which he plans to retire (37).
However, one segment that has intrigued many fans was when the 30-year-old British racing driver provided Charlie Rose and the rest of the world with the first taste of his music:
The two songs previewed in the clip above are titled “J’Adore” and “Lookin’ at You.”
“Music’s been a huge passion of mine since I was really young,” explains Hamilton. “I started playing guitar when I was 13. In here, I can be me, I can be vulnerable. I can show a side of me that people don’t get to see.
“The plan was that it always started as a hobby but it’s got to a point now where it’s very serious and we spend a lot of time in here. If I’m not training, getting ready for the race, I’m here.
“I never thought in a million years that I would have people following me. You know, fans. I want to share it with them, I want to see what they think, and my work ethic is exactly the same here as it is on the racetrack. But it’s just here I can be me.”
It’s been no secret that Hamilton has ramped up his lifestyle off of the racetrack over the course of the past year, making it clear to his fans that he’s trying to make the most of the world outside of the racetrack.
While his new lifestyle has came under a lot of criticism by various personalities from the garage, Hamilton has still been able to keep up his pace on track, winning the 2015 World Championship and breaking Nigel Mansell’s record for most Grand Prix wins by a British racing driver.
However, Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg won the last three races in the 2015 season, making some wonder if the German could pose a greater threat to Hamilton in 2016.
