After Wednesday’s stage 4, Nasser Al-Attiyah already had an eight-minute lead over Giniel de Villiers.

During the last two stages, he has been able to extend his lead, with a stage 6 win on Friday, while his teammate Vladimir Vasilyev took the honors during Thursday’s stage 5.

Former NASCAR racer Robby Gordon was able to redeem himself during Thursday’s stage 5 with a third-place finish. However, the American still remains several hours adrift after mechanical issues earlier on in the event.

In motorcycles, Joan Barreda’s lead over Marc Coma was narrowed during Thursday’s stage 5, with Coma’s first stage win of the event. Helder Rodrigues took his first stage win of the event on Friday during a day where the leaders ran into navigation issues (i.e. got lost). However, Joan Barreda and Marc Coma still sit in positions 1 and 2 overall, respectively.
