Courtney Force gets her first NHRA Funny Car win of 2016
Courtney Force (Funny Car), Doug Kalitta (Top Fuel) and Greg Anderson (Pro Stock) all walked away with wins on Sunday at the NHRA SpringNationals at the Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas.
For Courtney Force, it was her first win of the 2016 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing season, as she powered her Traxxas machine across the line just ahead of Tim Wilkerson. Force also defeated Bob Rode, Ron Capps and Tommy Johnson Jr. en route to the final. NHRA has now seen five consecutive national events with female race winners.
In Pro Stock, it was an all-KB Racing final again, but this time it was Greg Anderson who took the spoils ahead of his teammate Jason Line after he got a better start off of the line. Anderson had also put an end to the days of Vincent Nobile and Allen Johnson en route to the final after having a bye in the first round eliminations.
In Top Fuel, Doug Kalitta took the win in a third close race with a holeshot win, this one against Steve Torrence. Kalitta had eliminated Terry Haddock, Kebin Kinsley and Leah Pritchett en route to the final. However, the big talking point from Top Fuel was the incredible explosion that stopped Terry McMillen from advancing out of the first round against Tony Schumacher. Fortunately, McMillen was OK.
