John Wes Townley took the lead away from Cole Custer when it counted the most to win the season-opening ARCA Lucas Oil 200 at Daytona International Speedway.

Custer dominated the majority of the race, but dropped back to 12th late in the race. Custer finished 10th in his No. 54 Haas Automation Chevrolet.

Ten-time ARCA Racing Series champion Frank Kimmel finished 5th in his final start at Daytona. Kimmel now has 273 career top five finishes.

The big one happened early on in the race, as Cole Powell was hit from behind while racing on the high line through the tri-oval. Powell made contact with Gus Dean, causing a massive wreck that collected a total of 9 cars.

Other drivers caught up in the accident included eight-time Lucas Oil 200 champion Bobby Gerhart, Austin Wayne Self, Kevin Thomas, Terry Jones, Shane Lee, Jairo Avila and Mark Thodmpson.

The second caution of the race happened on Lap 18, as Mark Thompson, Derrick Lancaster and Matt Kurzejewski all got together between Turns 1 and 2.

Tom Hessert brought the caution on Lap 44 when a tire let go on his No. 25 Florida Lottery Toyota going into Turn 3.
