Sounders coach Sigi Schmid hospitalized

Seattle Sounders FC coach Sigi Schmid is hospitalized after being diagnosed with pneumonia. The team says in a release on Saturday that Schmid started experiencing shortness of breath on Thursday night. He was taken to Overlake Hospital in suburban Bellevue where he was diagnosed with pneumonia. The team says Schmid's condition has stabilized and he is improving, but he would remain hospitalized through Saturday. Schmid helped Seattle become the first expansion team since Chicago in 1998 to reach the Major League Soccer playoffs in its first year. The Sounders finished the regular season 12-7-11 before losing to Houston in the first round of the playoffs.
