Seattle Sounders' Levesque to retire

BY foxsports • July 13, 2012

Sounders FC forward Roger Levesque announced he will retire following Seattle's exhibition against European champions Chelsea.

The Sounders announced Levesque's decision Friday, which was first reported by The Seattle Times. The 31-year-old has played in Seattle since 2003, first with the USL-1 Sounders before signing with the MLS Sounders before Seattle's inaugural season in 2009. He's made 53 total appearances for the MLS club, including 18 starts, and has scored six goals.

Levesque is mostly remembered for his goal just 48 seconds into a US Open Cup match at rival Portland in 2009. Levesque also scored the winning goal in the Open Cup final in 2009 against DC United and had two goals, capped by a memorable scuba dive celebration, against New York in 2011.
