San Jose Earthquakes 1-0 Colorado Rapids
Chris Wondolowski scored for the third time in three games, leading the San Jose Earthquakes to a 1-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night in Major League soccer.
Wondolowski powered a left-footer past Matt Pickens in the 33rd minute, driving the ball from just inside the penalty box off the crossbar and into the net.
Wondolowski was set up on the play by Ryan Johnson, whose subtle touch on Ramiro Corrales' lead pass gave Wondolowski just enough room to get free from Drew Moor and strike the ball soundly on the bounce.
It was the first time the Earthquakes (3-2) have had a player score in three consecutive matches since Ryan Johnson in May 2009. Unlike that instance, when it lost all three matches, San Jose has gone 2-1 during Wondolowski's scoring string.
Colorado (3-2-1) held considerable possession but never generated much offense against a San Jose backline that was playing without rookie starter Ike Opara, who was at Wake Forest finishing his coursework.
