Red Bulls sign Richie Williams to extension

The New York Red Bulls have given assistant coach Richie Williams a contract extension.

Williams is in his fifth year as a Red Bulls' assistant. He worked under Mo Johnston during the beginning of the 2006 season, then served as interim head coach for eight regular season games. Williams also served as interim head coach for eight games last season after Juan Carlos Osorio resigned.

Williams played eight years in the MLS, spending six seasons with D.C. United and two with New York. He was a member of D.C. United's MLS Cup championship teams in 1996, 1997 and 1999.
