New York Red Bulls midfielder Seth Stammler has decided to retire after the 2010 MLS season.

The Red Bulls said Tuesday that Stammler approached the team a couple of weeks ago and told them he plans to pursue an advanced degree at the University of Chicago.

The club's longest continuously tenured player, Stammler has featured in 142 regular season matches for New York, starting 126. He is tied for second in franchise history in matches started and third in match appearances. He has tallied six goals and 13 assists for his career.
