Major League Soccer has fined Colorado Rapids midfielder Pablo Mastroeni for failing to leave the field fast enough after an ejection. The fines total $500 and are in addition to an automatic one-game suspension.
Mastroeni received a red card for striking Columbus midfielder Steven Lenhart in the 76th minute of Saturday's 1-0 win over the Crew. After being sent off, Mastroeni stayed on the field for a prolonged period.
On Tuesday, he was fined $250 by the league's disciplinary committee for that offense plus an automatic $250 penalty for the red card. His suspension for the ejection will be served Wednesday against the Chicago Fire.
