The Los Angeles Galaxy will play the Colorado Rapids at home on Sept. 14, two days earlier than originally scheduled.

The game, which was scheduled for Sept. 16, will begin at 8 p.m. at Home Depot Center.

Galaxy Vice President Chris Klein says the team sought the date change for ''purely competitive reasons.'' Major League Soccer and the Rapids supported the move that was announced Tuesday.

Klein says the Galaxy want to put themselves in the best position to win their CONCACAF Champions League game in Puerto Rico on Sept. 19 and the two extra days of rest and training beforehand will better prepare them.
