Former Major League Soccer MVP Luciano Emilio has re-signed with D.C. United, returning to the club on a three-month contract with an option to extend the deal.

The 31-year-old forward had been playing with a team in his native Brazil.

D.C. United announced the deal Wednesday. The club is 0-4 and has scored only two goals.

Emilio was the leading scorer, MVP and newcomer of the year in MLS in 2007, when he scored 20 goals in his first season with D.C. United.

He had 11 goals in league play in 2008, and 10 in 2009.
