One game after recording his 100th shutout, Kevin Hartman suffered one of his more humiliating defeats.
Hartman will try to bounce back when FC Dallas faces Chivas USA on Saturday, looking to extend a four-game road unbeaten streak.
Dallas had been unbeaten in nine straight overall before Sunday's 4-1 loss to Sporting Kansas City, which sits in last place in the Eastern Conference. Hartman gave up three goals in the second half, and Dallas (7-4-4) failed to respond after the game went into the break tied.
"It was a poor representation of who we are as a group. It's one of those games you have to move on quickly from," Hartman said. "It's humbling, it's frustrating, it's embarrassing. All you can do is get back to work."
Hartman's struggles last week came after he posted six shutouts in his previous seven games, including the 100th of his career in a 1-0 win over New England on June 4.
While the team's overall unbeaten streak is over, Dallas is 2-0-2 in its last four road games and Hartman has posted two shutouts during that stretch.
"We're going to take this loss as an opportunity. An opportunity to find out a little more about this team, and an opportunity to realize that we're better when we play as a team and fight for every ball," coach Schellas Hyndman said.
Dallas swept the season series with Chivas (4-5-5) last year, including a 2-1 road victory June 26.
Chivas also is looking to bounce back from a disappointing loss, 2-1 to Houston last Saturday after giving up the deciding score on an own goal in the 55th minute.
"We weren't as good in execution as we needed to be, which led to turnovers, which led to opportunities for them, which led to corner kicks and free kicks," said coach Robin Fraser, whose team was undefeated in its previous three matches (1-0-2).
Chivas will play five of its next seven games at home but hasn't had much of an advantage playing at The Home Depot Center this year. Chivas is 2-3-2 at home while scoring just seven goals, including two in its last three games there.
Justin Braun hasn't scored in five games since recording a hat trick May 15 against New York. Those are his only goals this season after he finished with a career-best nine last year.
While Braun is struggling, Marcos Mondaini continues to provide a boost. Since returning from a four-game suspension for a tackle on Real Salt Lake's Javier Morales on May 7, Mondaini has scored in back-to-back games and in three of his last four appearances.
