Columbus Crew defender Julius James has been suspended one game by MLS for what the league termed ''violent conduct'' against Philadelphia this week. James was also fined an undisclosed amount for an incident in the 78th minute against the Union on Wednesday.
The league made the announcement on Friday, and James will serve the suspension during the Crew's match against the Montreal Impact on Saturday.
Fines collected will be donated to charity.
The Crew is 11-8-6 this season, with 39 points. On Wednesday, Eddie Gaven scored a goal and Columbus outlasted Philadelphia, 2-1.
