Colorado Rapids 0-1 Los Angeles Galaxy
Alan Gordon scored in the first half and the Los Angeles Galaxy won for the first time in Denver in nearly eight years, beating the Colorado Rapids 1-0 on Wednesday night.
Edson Buddle was scoreless for the Galaxy (6-0-1) after scoring nine goals in the first six games of the season. Donovan Ricketts had his fifth shutout of the year.
Colorado (3-3-1) lost at home for the first time in eight games dating to a 1-0 loss to Columbus in August 2009. The Rapids were shut out for the second straight game.
Buddle and the Galaxy had several chances before Gordon scored in the 21st minute. Matt Pickens smothered Buddle's shot from the slot with both hands in the fourth minute and it took a late lunge by Colorado defender Julien Bauget to keep Buddle's left-footed attempt from reaching the netting in the 11th minute.
The Rapids had their best chance swatted away by Ricketts in the ninth minute. Omar Cummings broke free, but Ricketts came well out of the crease to make a diving save.
Gordon converted Landon Donovan's free kick into a goal, sending a header over Pickens' shoulder.
