Chivas USA looks to start streak
Chivas USA became the last MLS team to earn a victory this season, though it doesn't believe the drought was indicative of its recent play.
After ending a nine-game winless streak, Chivas looks to extend its unbeaten run to five when it hosts the New England Revolution on Saturday night.
Chivas (1-2-3) beat San Jose 2-1 last Saturday, and the club hasn't allowed more than one goal since a season-opening 3-2 loss to Kansas City on March 19.
"(The win) is great for this team's confidence and great for what we're trying to do," assistant coach Greg Vanney said after Chivas won for the second time in 13 games. "You can see them building. Every week it's getting better."
Alejandro Moreno scored his team-leading second goal on a header in first-half injury time off a 35-yard free kick from Heath Pearce.
"We're looking forward to this weekend wanting to validate what we just did against San Jose and make sure we get two points here at home," Moreno said.
Chivas has gone 0-3-1 in its last four at home but took the last meeting there with New England, 2-0 on Sept. 20 as Justin Braun and Paulo Nagamura scored.
The Revolution (2-2-3) are playing their third game in seven days following a 3-2 victory over D.C. in a U.S. Open Cup qualifier Wednesday. New England beat Sporting Kansas City 3-2 last Saturday in its latest MLS match.
Two newcomers led the Revs past Kansas City as New England ended a four-game win drought in league play. Rajko Lekic recorded the winner in his second game with the team and Benny Feilhaber had an assist in his debut.
The three goals were the most scored by the Revolution in 14 MLS games.
Feilhaber, a U.S. national team midfielder, was claimed by the Revolution after Chivas passed on the opportunity to nab him. Chivas held the first claim on any player coming from Europe to MLS, but decided not to acquire Feilhaber due to his large salary.
Chivas has outscored New England 8-0 in winning the last three meetings and has taken two straight home matchups.
